Getting by with a little help…
Uprising Breads Bakery has been in continuous business at our location just off Commercial Drive on Venables for coming on 40 years now.
Over the years we have also been proud sponsor of our good neighbour, The Kettle Friendship Society, both financially and and with in kind donations. The work they do is admirable; providing a welcoming environment and assistance to clients facing mental health challenges and overcoming barriers to housing and employment.
Being in the bakery business we are able to support many worthy local causes through our various product donation programs. Applicants for our daily Donation at Close program can apply through our website. We also work closely with the Quest Food Exchange which runs an innovative, not- for-profit, grocery store in the Downtown Eastside available to low income shoppers. Angel Food Runners, in association with The Vancouver Food Bank, make regular bread pick ups from our wholesale program.
The Bakery has always extended an everyday 10% discount to our seniors. We apply the same discount to any school purchases made by our teachers.
Another close neighbour, The Britannia Community Centre and Secondary School run many programs requiring the support of local businesses. Uprising Breads sponsored Britannia Micro Footie Teams play every Saturday on fields throughout East Van.
So … Grandview–Woodlands, East Van, “The Drive”, call it what you will it’s the neighbourhood we live and work in … and we love being a part of this lively and diverse Vancouver community.
